The initial two settlements, Jamestown and Plymouth, began a rapid development of the American east coast. Soon the original 13 colonies had been formed. The colonies had a thriving relationship with Britain through trade. A seamingly perfect arrangement came to be among the 13 colonies to produce the goods that were sold to Britain, and consequently, the goods bought from them.

The colonies in the Northeast and those in the Southeast, each separately developed unique cultures and economies. This uniqueness is due in large part to the different climates, but also so socioeconomic factors as well.
